Anacortes Critical Area Ordinance After the extremely close call with the March Point heronry, Evergreen Islands, the Skagit Audubon Society, and 1000 Friends of Washington appealed Anacortes's lack of a Critical Areas Ordinance to the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board.
T Bailey, a company who manufactures large steel, wind generator towers; is proposing to build a manufacturing facility adjacent to the March Point Heronry. Anacortes citizens have complained about the noise that's produced 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week at T Bailey's current location. Will the noise drive the herons away? An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would help provide the answers.
The State of Washington transferred Heart Lake to the City of Anacortes with the Native Forest Area protections intact. Fir Crest PUDFir Crest Planned Unit Development is a development proposal for 64 homes on 27 acres of land directly adjacent to the Anacortes Community Forest. Fir Crest is located just west of A Avenue and south of 41st Street. A large wetland is located in the very middle of the proposed development, and Mitten Pond is directly adjacent to the development's western boundary. Deception PassThe Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is considering modifying the state's most popular park, Deception Pass. Their proposed 'upgrades' would dramatically change the nature of the most beautiful park in our area. Fidalgo BayMJB Properties, a major developer of Fidalgo Bay property, announced an ambitious plan for extensive eelgrass mitigation in Fidalgo Bay as well as building a new breakwater to extend beyond the current harbor line. Lakewood Park Estate DevelopmentAn Edmonds developer who bought 40 acres from the Willette family off Miller Road has had his residential project slapped with a 6-year moratorium by the county because of land-use violations. Randy S. Previs, who owns Seavestco Inc. of Edmonds, planned a 20-lot development off Miller Road near Scimitar Ridge Lane, dubbed Lakewood Estates, but Skagit County planning officials say Previs skipped getting permits... Orca PassAn "informal coalition" of conservation organizations are working to establish a protected area in the shared waters between British Columbia and Washington State. Skagit River DevelopmentDon Clark won the right to expand his resort along the banks of the Skagit River but now faces the wrath of environmental groups, federal regulators and local Indian tribes. "It's remarkable that this type of project with inadequate environmental review could be approved in this day and age of fish on the brink of extinction," said Larry Wasserman, environmental services director of the Skagit Cooperative.
