Anacortes Critical Area Ordinance

After the extremely close call with the March Point heronry, Evergreen Islands, the Skagit Audubon Society, and 1000 Friends of Washington appealed Anacortes's lack of a Critical Areas Ordinance to the Western Washington Growth Management Hearings Board.

March Point Heronry

T Bailey, a company who manufactures large steel, wind generator towers; is proposing to build a manufacturing facility adjacent to the March Point Heronry.  Anacortes citizens have complained about the noise that's produced 24 hours-a-day, 7 days-a-week at T Bailey's current location.  Will the noise drive the herons away?  An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) would help provide the answers.

Lakewood Park Estate Development

An Edmonds developer who bought 40 acres from the Willette family off Miller Road has had his residential project slapped with a 6-year moratorium by the county because of land-use violations. Randy S. Previs, who owns Seavestco Inc. of Edmonds, planned a 20-lot development off Miller Road near Scimitar Ridge Lane, dubbed Lakewood Estates, but Skagit County planning officials say Previs skipped getting permits...

Orca Pass

An "informal coalition" of conservation organizations are working to establish a protected area in the shared waters between British Columbia and Washington State.

Skagit River Development

Don Clark won the right to expand his resort along the banks of the Skagit River but now faces the wrath of environmental groups, federal regulators and local Indian tribes. "It's remarkable that this type of project with inadequate environmental review could be approved in this day and age of fish on the brink of extinction," said Larry Wasserman, environmental services director of the Skagit Cooperative.
